Singapore August 2009 I am sitting out in the middle of a huge rain storm that struck most of South East Asia. I am desperate to see some sun. Bad time to be working and touring Asia. I was sitting in my living room in Manila looking for dry land. I charted the weather and noticed that Singapore was dry... so that's my destination. I have 5 days before I had to get back to Hong Kong for work so I decided why not spend it somewhere dry. I packed up the gear and decided to catch the next flight out. To my surprise Singapore is one of the best places I have been to. Its clean, modern, and best of all its not raining here. Its a small island about the same size as Hong Kong so getting around is very easy. Everyone speaks english and it is regarded to be the safest place in Asia. click on the images to see a larger view
Sentosa Nights Okay its 3 AM. Its pretty humid here and my sleep is all messed up from all this traveling. I can't sleep so I bust out the camera. Its peaceful out here walking around in the dark. I have to wake up in a few hours to do the tourist thing in the city so I have just a few minutes to take some night shots. Mount Faber This is the highest point in Singapore. The View is amazing up here with perfect weather conditions. I barely caught the sunset as I ate an early dinner at the Jewel Box Restaurant. I would love to get more time here, next time I stop by Singapore I will make it a full day up here. Arab Street Lots of shopping here. I went to see the muslim temples but they were not letting people inside at this time. I ended up eating lunch at a patio restaurant here. I must say that the food is the best thing you can get here. Images of Singapore Images of Singapore a historical museum. It was cool how they presented the history of singapore into individual rooms. It would start with the early farmers to the english settlers. Then ended with pictures and art from the early 1900's. China Town This place is nutz. It is basically an outdoor swap meet, but what amazes me is that people would show up in Bentleys, Benzos, and Lambos. So I decided to get some food and some shopping in. While picking up some trinkets for the people back home I ran into this artist that paints the inside of hallow glass globes. I had her make me a globe for my nephew that took her about 45 minures to finish. I got to walk around buy some shirts and shot glasses for some of my friends while she finished. Fort Siloso This fort has been retrofitted to be museum. Its bunkers are filled with artifacts from WW2. I would suggest doing this in the early morning since you had to hike up and down hills to get from bunker to bunker. Bring lots of water. |
